The book carefully blends romance with humor while keeping a focus on family issues which made it a great book to take to the beach this summer. The author uses the familiar conflict to illustrate the role of the family in Asian culture and give readers a peek into the culture’s traditions. Yen’s debut novel follows Liza as she is struggling with her parents about her future. I am always looking for fun books with diverse characters, and A Taste For Love perfectly fits the bill. However, the real joy of this book was Yen’s exploration of Liza’s family. Their slow evolution from stranger, to friend, to more was cute and fun to read. Darcy, who doesn’t show the world his good heart. Liza truly owns this book and seeing her step into her true self while holding the traditions of her family close makes her a heroine to root for. Liza was a smart and driven main character in the vein of Elizabeth Bennett she is stuck between her parents’ goals and her dreams. Overall, A Taste for Love was a sweet coming-of-age story. Review: I am a sucker for Pride and Prejudice retellings, and A Taste For Love was an adorable adaptation.
